My tone doesn't suffer enough to make a difference. Actually, I prefer the slightly attenuated highs from the extra length in cable, as opposed to using say a 10' cable straight into my amp. But, the difference isn't enough to say one is better than the other.

My clean tone is superb btw ;). I like a pushed clean tone that has a touch of break up, but I can get some shimmering/sparkling cleans if I want to. It's just not what I like.

High quality cables defanately make a difference too!
