Ya, my pastor is really more of a history teacher.

It sucks though. Last year we had a new junior pastor. He was the coolest man I'd met in my life. He had a Phd and a buttload of other degrees, but he was a dude. He loved heavy metal, and hard rock. (We listened to Velvet Revolver together!) He also played guitar and used to be in a band-stuff like Satch and Vai. His band was kicked out of a club for getting the crowd too riled up.

Anyways, unfortunatly after 8 months, He went to teach at BIOLA in LA. Definately miss him.

yeah, I had a youth pastor kinda like that. he played guitar, though he only had an acoustic. man, he so wanted an electric so bad. but he said that if he was going to get an electric, he wanted to get the best so he wouldn't need to buy another one 6 months down the road.. I tried to tell him otherwise, but he didn't listen of course. for a while he wanted a gibson les paul, then he wanted some parker fly thing, then his most recent fascination was with carvin. anyway, this dude was into metal too. we listened to Pantera, Norma Jean, and Extol together!

then, not more then 2 or 3 months ago, my church decides that they need to make some budget cuts. so they "let go" a few people. this pastor being one of them. I miss him like crazy.

You guys are so lucky to have had cool, guitar-playing, metal-loving pastors! I'm jealous - you never get any Catholic priests like that!

y'know? I'm suddenly reminded of a moment in family guy.

peter goes up to drink from the wine. takes a sip and goes "Holy crap! is that really the blood of christ?" the priest nods and peter says "Man! that guy muct have been wasted 24/7 huh?"

Good to know I'm not alone. It does make such a difference. That's pretty low firing a pastor.

it actually happens more than you'd think. the way they do it tho, is eaither give them to some other church that needs a pastor, or force them into retirement.

yeah.. we don't have money for a youth pastor.. but we have money to go send like 15 people to nicaragua to preach to the people there for a few weeks.. I think my church needs to get it's priorities straight.

plus, this pastor had just had, like 2 months prior, his first baby. and he was desperately trying to get his house remodeled. I thought churches were about caring for your fellow christian? they could've fired anyone else. even one of our TWO main pastors (yes, we have TWO where most churches have one). but of course not! let's leave the high school kids to fend for themselves. I mean, we have a couple volunteer leaders. but they're just not the same, you know what I mean?
