Ok so I'm switching out my pickups on my LTD M-50 and changing the tone pot to a push/pull pot for coil splitting. I used the schematic at the address listed below and combined it with how my guitar was wired before and drew a new schematic that is hopefully the correct wiring for the mod with my guitar. So I'm in the middle of things right now. I am hooking up the first pickup. They are seymour duncans with 4-conductor wires. Now my question is, are the four different wires (5 if you count the bare) supposed to be so spread out? I've had to cut back about 2 inches on the shielding to get the individual wires to spread out to where I think they are supposed to go. I realize that at this point I could be destroying both pickups, but I really want to learn by doing this stuff hands on. If it comes down to where things start looking really bad, I will take it to a shop, but until then, suggestions only on how to wire this thing please.
