Well to start with, if they're learning like you say they are, you must be a great teacher.
From here, I'd suggest you teach them some songs they like, sort of like an applications mark.
I also back up Akira about the minor penatonic scale. Teach them say, the popular 5th position of the Am penatonic, and show them how to move it around to play in any key.

Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
