I've long since learned not to take sh* from anyone. I'm the kind of guy who does everything possible to permanently mutilate people in fights.

Passive resistance does not stop bullying. If someone pushes you the only effective response is to push them harder. Bullies do not have low self esteem, they have too much of it. The only way to get respect from them is to forcibly put them in their place.
