Zoom makes decent enough units for beginners, but for semipros and beyond, they simply suck for distortion and effects. Firstly the effects are abysmal (except maybe the flange), secondly they cause ridiculously high noise levels at high gain. If you're gigging with mediocre amps, your rhythm tones are going to sound really bad. The tuner is good though. I have a 505II and use it on stage just for the tuner.
