I picked one up Friday at a Pawn Shop. $60.00
I was told by some others (some salespeople at a certain guitar store) not to buy anything made by "Zoom". I tested it out there at the pawn shop and I saw no reasons not to purchase it. This is my first processor, and since I am "cheap" felt the price was right.
The only problem I have is that since it was used it did not have the Manufacturers instructions. I tried going to their website to download them but I am having trouble there also. Something about Adobe 6.0 needed (remember that I have 3 childre 9 months -15 years, so I am not only cheap by nature but ......) so I am not going to purchase the 6.0 version just for this. IF someone knows of an alternate website that would have them please let me know. Or if someone has the instructions and could possibly scan, zip and email it to me it would be appreciated
I am still playing with it and my "favorite" effect so far (which was a bonus to me) is the Phaser. Each effect has like 9 different presets for each one and the phase gives me a EVH vibe (cradle will rock, talkin bout love or black and blue) or a Via ("the animal") kind of feel.
When it comes to the amp mods..... I personally do not care which "one" it is trying to simulate. I just go for.. "I am looking for this kind of rythm sound, I want a lead like this"... Just turn someswitches and adjust some gain...Wham! I am able to find what I hear in my head. Remember how you play with your stomp boxes and just do the same with the processor and you will be amazed at what your experimentation will yield.
It also has a tuner. Since the oonly "tuner" I have ever owned was either as pitchpipe, keyboard, or what comes with my puter software I really have no basis for comparison but it seem fairly easy to use.
For some of the other effects I am still trying to play around with them and until I can get a set of the instructions I am really "flying blind" so I can't really tell you what the ZNR/AMP is, Patch Level etc. But then again I try not to think to much when it comes to efects and such. I just fiddle around and try to go only with (that sounds cool! write it down!)
I tested the processor on a 15 watt Peavey Practice Amp and was impressed by the sound. Got home and put it on the Fender Hotrod Deluxe and was glad to find it still sounded just as sweet.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something versitle and if you are on a budget. But with all things try to find a place to play with one before you buy it. Ultimately it is you who have to like the sound.
