Why does everything have to be rated. There are so many great guitarists. In my opinion no one can be at the top. so many of those guys arer different.

WTF is Malmsteen doing down at 15? he should be top 5. Other than that, I think that list is actually pretty good for the most part

I dont think I've ever seen a list of the best guitar players that didnt start with hendrix, its starting to get annoying. yeah he was a very inovative guitarist and definetly deserves to be on the list but not #1.

But its all subjective which makes list making pretty much pointless

subjective
opionative
whatever...

It's impossible for anyone to list 5 of their favorite guitarists in order of their talent level... and have 10 random guitar players agree. IMPOSSIBLE. That's why I interpret a list of 100 "greatest" guitarists of all time as a list in no particular order... "greatest" can mean a wide range of things... inspirational, inovative, talented, technical, creative, fastest.... etc... etc... So don't read anything into it and don't get offended by a list that doesn't list your favorite guitar player... just take it as it is.

Not enough, anyway. John McLaughlin is behind Yngwie Lamesteen .

But in the end, I have to agree with aschleman and BLS. It's all completely subjective, and to try to definitively list musicians in order of perceived "greatness" is useless.

Last time I posted on this thread was january...haha, well anyway. I think this list makes alot more sense than the Rolling Stone one. One that one Gilmour was 82!? But, correct me if I'm wrong, was the guitarist from the Chili Peppers there? Doesn't deserve to be in like top ten, but hey, top 50 maybe? The guy deserves some credit.

Ya, but he doesn't do anything on a guitar a person who has been playing for 2 months can't. Basic chords + kick arse tunes=Bob Dylan tune. NO arguing with you that the songs are great...but you know...

The Rolling Stone list sounds like they just went around the office and asked everyone if they knew the names of any guitar players. Ha, they probably had a hard time even coming up with 100 names. Morons.
