I'm wondering why you would claim that you hate passive pickups, and then ask if EMG actives are better? Just how many have you tried out?
I've got quite a few axes in my guitarsenal, and the only ones that have an active pickup are my Washburn SBT-21 Tele-style, with a Fishman piezo bridge pickup system (it sounds like a very good acoustic 6-string guitar, with zero uncontrolled feedback, because it's a solid-body guitar), and my Washburn Festival 12-string acoustic.
All of my electrics use passive pickups. They have much better tone than any active electric guitar system I've tried. They're more versatile. And I never have to think about batteries.
If you insist on using EMG actives, suit yourself. You might as well save some money by installing them in the cheapest POS guitar you can find that plays well. There is nothing to be gained by wasting money on a high-end guitar to put them in.
