I would be a checker but you have to be 18 to do it... grrr..
btw, dude, you can't pump you're own gas? it's not that hard. what I do is pull up, look what pump number I'm at, walk in give them $20 and say "can I get get $20 on pump ##" then you go out, select whether you want unleaded, premium, or super, then pull the thing off, and stick it in the tank.. it'll stop filling when it gets to $20... no going one cent over (in fact, in my civic, filling the tank usually only ends up being like $17 or $18) then you go in, get your receipt and any change that may be due. and leave.. simple!
It's not being mean.
You're the one who took the job at the rate they're paying so why should I be the one to suffer for it. If you want more money, go find a different job instead of expecting hand outs. Smiling, doing your job in the rain, putting up with whatever... IS your job. You actually expect extra money from a disabled person because you didn't complain?
As far as pumping your own gas. Sure, it's not so hard for you.
But consider just 10 years ago (the last time I pumped my own gas), all you did was whip out of your car, flip a lever and start pumping. Watched the mechanical numbers roll by and inched it up to $20.01 or whatever.
Went inside, payed and left. Maybe 5 minutes tops. And it was understood that everybody squeezed an extra cent or two out of the pump.
It was just the way things were.
Now it's all digital displays that jump up by 3 cents at a time, buttons and keypads for multiple options, then you go inside (30 feet away from the pumps) and wait in line for the 5 people ahead of you who just shopped at the convenience store.
Then you get a guy who doesn't speak English who inists on the exact amount you pumped. You can't even talk to them cause they pretend they don't understand you.
I was there for at least 10 minutes or more.
Nah... I'll stick to full service.
Ya pull up...somebody else pumps the gas, cleans your windshield, checks your oil.
And it costs you the same or less than doing it yourself.
And I've never heard of anybody feeling like they had to tip for it.
As far as paying first... that's a new one on me.
If you go inside before pumping the gas, they're gonna look at you like you're nuts as far as I know. I've never heard of anybody doing that before.
