They (Green Day) weren't really doing anything that required bravery... Not saying they're a bad band... and that you shouldn't listen to them. People are inspired by different things. If we were going to talk about political rock... I would have to say Bob Marley really broke the ground on that whole subject... and Rage Against the Machine was really a better "political band" than Green Day. I think that Green Day really falls more in line with pop/rock than Punk... seeing how punk ideology revolves around being different and not the "in" thing. There are a ton of Green Days out there now... and Musically they're nothing to be amazed at... in any regard... I respect the opinions and I can see where you would be coming from. But I think the term "punk" has been lost in translation and is now used to describe any band that uses numerous power chords with lyrics that include themes of broken homes, bad parent/child relationships, general politics, high school relationships, and so on... Green Day is no longer punk in my opinion... its pop/rock.
