Both guitars are excellent.....but.....do yourself a favor and test drive a number of Epis. I have done this with each purchase I have made....every one is different in some way. With me, usually there is some kind of fit/finish issue that steers me away from a guitar. For the money, the Epiphone Les Paul is outstanding, even though some guitarists bash them. They are made of good woods...maybe not the highest quality. They have Grover tuners...the Aisian made ones, but if you string it right and set the strings right, they are entirely do-able. The pickups are bashed frequently, which I don't understand. Where I see Epi cutting the corners on quality is in the electronics. I recently had the pots on my Classic go out on me. I had all the pots, switch, jack, and wiring replaced, which has made a remarkable difference in the sound. The pickups- not bad from day one- even sound better.

I have two Epi Les Pauls: a 2003 Classic, Korean made, and a 2005 Standard, Chinese made.
