well, in my opinion, the les paul and SG have very similar tones, probably because they use the same pickups. so when it came to buying a new guitar, it was down to a les paul or an SG for me.. I decided on SG because, 1. lighter on the shoulder, and 2. (and more importantly) the looks, it's more of a "I'm a born rocker!" kind of look. plus, you don't see them as often as you see les pauls.
