I guess it just depends on what you want to do with solos. In my opinion, the best way to make a solo a really well put solo is to focus on what happens under it. All the chords and notes that the rhythm hits are every bit as important as the lead itself. Complete understanding of the notes below the solo is the best bet to make the solo itself pull through victoriously.
