Well, I was only skimming the Religion thread to check for flame wars or bypassed swear filters, so I don't know the full context of that comment, but to reply to what you just said:

I think you need to think more of how they would view being called ignorant than of whether it would offend you or not. And, to be honest, I would be offended if someone outright called me ignorant.

Ill throw in my $.02.

I found Jolly's post calling me ignorant a little offensive actually because I honestly dont believe I said anything that could be considered ignorant. I backed up anything I said, and though you may have disagreed with me, it doesnt make me ignorant. I clearly understand both sides of the issue.

I am not arguing the definition of ignorance Jolly. The point is that it is considered by most that the word ignorant is offensive to some degree. You would have been a better person to have opened up your extensive vocabulary and found better words.

This was not a cool post. Right now has been my first chance today to wade through them, but there were many, MANY more posts that would not have made the cut, and there were many warnings that should have been given.

Please, everyone that was participating in that thread, take this as a general warning. Anyone that was either inciting others or that was siding with people who were inciting others. Also, for some reason, we seem to have forgotten that bypassing the swear filter is not a cool thing.

yeah, i think a lot of what really lit my fire didn't even have to do with any specific thing said on the board as much as taken in from media around me and that i watched a documentary on karl rove...which especially lit a fire under my ass, ya know?

I was actually very sad to see it closed. I found it very interesting and compelling. sure, people took it a little out of hand I guess, but you didn't really give them a warning until the the thread was only minutes away from closing, not really giving much chance to repent there. oh well, it wasn't the first, and it won't be the last (hopefully) political thread.

Personally I don't see a reason why it should have been closed, but forum rules are forum rules.

Should it be re-opened? I doubt it. I think that everybody who participated had a chance to express their opinion and to read those of others.

It was a hell of a couple a days but I guess we should leave it behind and maybe see how the site grows and try it again next year. Maybe our opinions will change and we can clean up our act.

That STINKS because...eh whatever...you'll see my evaluations for 2008 when that rolls around.

Just wondering though...Are you now a mod majic ninja?

Ive read many different boards on alot of subjects and even the worst flame wars seem pretty "tame"...like ive never seen "I'm gonna kill you bla bla bla"e.c.t.Besides the language,filter deally,things were smooth enough...just alot of "How dare you!?'s.

I was a mod a couple of years ago. I disappeared from the boards for awhile and I lost most of my power as a mod i.e. I can't edit or delete posts and I can't ban anyone. I do however still have access to the administration forum. I have asked to be reinstated as a mod. Jon wants to wait a while and make sure I stick around this time. I assure you I will. I only tried moderating that thread myself because I didn't want it to end up closed. Post were coming in everyfew minutes which made things difficult for mods (like eggman) who only pop in once in awhile. I knew the way things were going there at the end, someone was going to get angry with some of the posts. So without being a full mod I did what I could which apparently wasn't enough.
