in california here they can charge around $100 a month for a half hour lesson per week... that's $50 an hour! of course, the cost of living in california is alot higher then in most other states, so it evens that out I guess. so you would probably need 40+ students just to get by comfortably
but yeah, if you have a bachelors in music, it would be alot easier to get a higher clientele. think about it, would you rather take lessons from someone who has taken college level music courses and has his bachelors, or someone that claims to have figured it all out on their own?
I need advice

I say get good grades and if you are tottally committed to the guitar go to college for music. Then If all else fails you can still be a music teacher at a school and do what you love.

You can see the response is almost unanimous. Get the grades, they will take you places. Even with music, it will help you. Just use your parents as an excuse to use your time with the guitar more efficiently and let it motivate you to do better in school.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

I'll go ahead and pitch a vote towards school. Even if you don't want it, you're there now so you might as well do it. It's not like it'll last forever and I guaratee you won't regret graduating.

as of now i think school should be your main priority. and music comes 2nd only. guitar stuff can be inserted during your studies.
For the love of music not for the love of money!!! :D

music comes 2nd
I agree with everything except this little excerpt.....
Besides, not only am I willing to put in the effort for diplomacy and later my bachelor's, I am beginning to see the all powerful yin-yan affect here that was veiled before by my humanity and childishness. Without my guitar I've learned enough music theory to analyze my own or others riffs and write lead lines and solos to them. I also am finally getting rid of all my bad muscle memory from back when my head was in my arse. I'll buy the "Principles of Correct Practice for Guitar" before I get my axe back. My in-school suspension booth is awesome and I can do all my work and am probably already passing all my classes again. I love that booth because society is no where to be found there, and I don't have to say a word all day or move around classes. But it goes on my record so no more after tomorrow. I'm happy and I'm trying to convince my rhythm man, Kyle, to go to college.

what if you lost a hand or something......Then What ?????
Then I would go to college and get my bachelors in music and live a happy life with the pursuit of music. Of course I would take up another instrument, maybe Bass guitar (not trying to offend the 4 string players).

you think you can play bass with only one hand? maybe you should take up harmonica

It was a joke man, and I love harmonica. But I have a few years in trumpet behind me so that's probably the rout I'd go, even I hear every day about another trumpet player having a brain anureism.

Sure thing. Use your real fingers to fret the notes and a funky prosthetic to slap.

You can compose with one hand, I'm pretty sure.

I guess you'll just have to get really good at one handed tapping.
and if the only hand you have left is your picking hand, then you're going to have to get a special 12-string, with each string being a different note, and learn to pick really well, then play music by just picking the open strings in the right order..

I'd be so bleak...I guess I'd just lay my guitar across my knees and tap away...but nowhere near as well as the dude next to me with two hands...you could also go an play drums for a washed-up 80's band...?Kill Ricki Rocket and play for Poison on a reunion tour...
One armed drummers could become like fashion accesories for old school hair metal bands...

Or stick a slide on your prosthetic.
