OK...so hopefully we've established the Tele part. The bridge pickup part. AND the compression part. Each amp acts differently. Sure, you might be able to get close to his but you won't get right on. To get his tone you need to be him almost.

It sounds like its really snapping the strings so he's most likely using a medium->hard pick. Yes the different pickups will have a big impact on the sound.

Set the EQ on your amp with ( out of 10 )..High 7-8, Mid 5-6, Bass 7-8.

The amp is being overdriven even with his first setting. This could be the work of the amp itself ( with the volume high ) or the work of the compressor. You'll need a tube amp to re-create this sound, because solid states do not act this way.
