oookay i have NO experiance with flat wound strings, i hadnt even head of them untill recently.

im guessing they would just be easier to play for a beginner, but im also thinking they would kill your tone just a bit. (i dont know these things, just implying here)

sting gauge is the width of the sting. its usually based on your first E string, so if you hear like .09 gauge strings, its cuz the E is .09 somethings wide, and the next is a little bigger, etc.

i'd recomend .10's because they still have good sound, and still arnt to hard to play. but .09's are good too- easy to play, but you lose some of that good, full sound.
