Personally I don't see the wider neck as a negative, I actually prefer it. It's not any wider than the neck on a classical guitar, and even little kids play those.

Only negative I can think of is that you have an extra string to replace/keep in tune.

As far positives go, you either like it or you don't. In my mind, neither 6 or 7-string is better, they are just different.
