I just noticed that weather.com is updating the pictures I linked to. That means we can watch the hurricane demolish Texas on this thread.

My wife just talked to one of her friends that's trying to evacuate from Galveston and she said she's been in traffic on the freeway for over seven hours and not moving anywhere fast. She has got as far as Humble, that's like 20 miles in 7 hrs.

Hope your safe Rusty!

global warming doesn't exist. at least current scientific data doesn't point towards such a trend being an issue and being what all the hippies and liberals make it out to be.

and plus that, we all know it's because god hates bush and so god's looking to **** up bush's reputation...either that or bush is really THAT unlucky that he had two gigantic natural disasters, a failure of a war campaign in iraq and the 9-11 attacks all fall on him. not to mention the highest gas prices seen in decades.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

Yes, he really has just been that unlucky. I think us going to war in Iraq would have happened no matter who was president.

you know...i agree with us being in iraq to an extent but i think it also shot us in the foot with a sawn-off shotgun to go there in the name of a war on terrorism and basically villified us more with the people we're looking to stop suicide bombing us and wanting to suicide bomb us.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

I made it to Austin. What normally is about a 4 hour drive, took us 12. Until the final 70 miles, the average speed was about 5 mph. Quite a boring, monotonous road trip. I've never seen so many people. Lines at gas stations, broken down cars, lots of fender benders. So I'll be watching the storm roll in on tv and web like the rest of ya'll.

been there! i made a 12 hour drive starting at 4pm to dallas from new orleans....the traffic is painful but you can beat it by screaming out some songs with the window rolled down. nothing like screaming some CoB or fishbone or clutch in the car to help pass time.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

Ok, looks like my town is dodging the brunt of the storm. I'm not sure about how Galveston will fair, at least the west end. Grateful that it weakened a bit before hitting at least. Now I hope to God the traffic isn't like what it was on the way out when I try to drive home tomorrow sometime. One of my Aunts ran out of gas on the highway somewhere, and it took her over 2 days to finally arrive here in Austin. It prolly was the world's worst traffic jam.

Yep, I'm back. It's all good here at home. Actually my town just got a lil rain and some wind, but they never even lost power here. I think Galveston was hit a little harder obviously, but very minimal damage. Thus I'm fairly confident my family's property there is ok. From what that storm was at one time (3rd most intense storm ever recorded) to what it weakened to and actually did (and where it went), it couldn't have worked out much better. Of course it did do some damage where it did land and I feel for those people, but I'm just saying comparitively it could've been alot worse and I'm grateful. So now this thread can die for now thankfully...however there's still 2 more months of "season" left! DUN, DUN, DUUUNNNN!
