I'm slowly building a solid body electric guitar with a body blank and solid maple fender neck I got as a gift from a friend that moved far away to texas and didn't want to lug extra stuff with him. The serial number is S 982264 made in USA, it has stamped on the but end the following: "1511", "J. FLORES"(note the last letter is basically gone except the lower curve of the letter, and the "L" could be an "E"), and in a circle it reads "FRR 20". My guess is that it was made in the early 80's.
Okay, now my problem is that it has a strange screw hole pattern and I don't know which holes to use. there are two in the usual place where the skunk stripe ends (represented by a !) but the lower ones are closer together inside a recessed u shaped pocket with a larger 1/4 inch hole 'tween them.

Please if any one knows any info about why my neck is like this, help me.
