I was totally trained by my parents to not eat meat unless it was thoroughly cooked. Like if there was any red in beef, it wasn't cooked properly and you had to throw it away.
Even now, my mother cooks beef so much that it's about half the size of the original and hard as shoe leather.
I tried to get her to eat a new york steak off the barbecue once and she wouldn't touch it because there was still some red in it.
