Oh Yes, i forgot. Always learn the melody if you are soloing over say the chorus. Start by playing the melody and listen to how it sounds over the chords. Then you can take parts of the melody and use in the solo, or you use a rythm-figure or a melodic figure and improvise over that.
Consider carefully how to start and end the solo!!
