View post (palm muting like jack johnson)

Hm... Good ol' Jack Johnson. Well I'll use "Taylor" as an example. To play his stuff you need to understand something about the guy... he's a laid back surfer dude who prolly smoked/smokes enough pot to chill out a large crowd.... That said... he's a lazy strummer. Nothing of his is too fancy and just remember to relax when you play it or it'll sound robotic. For Taylor he plays closer to the bridge to give him that slight twang. He BAAAARELY touches the strings during throughout the song. If you've been playing guitar long enough you can pick it out. The onyl real good advice is that his palm mutes are very slight. He doesn't bury his hand in the strings. Due to his lazy style he'll just lay the side of his palm lightly across them to get that nice warm half mute tone. Through the verses of Taylor he does a little thing where he'll palm mute at the beginning of the chord then as he strums it he'll lift his palm mute until the chord rings out a little then he changes chords. Just listen to the song that you're trying to play enough to where you can hear the palm mutes. Then just play and go with it.
