I think combo would be your best bet like you said. I would look at something with either 2x12 or 2x10. Single speaker combos tend to give less character to the sound but they are cheaper and some of them are just as loud as 2x12's. Marshalls are nice but pricy... The Vox amp that was recommended looks pretty nice but I've never played it. I personally have a Marshall JCM800 2x12 combo... it's a tube amp and I think it's 50 watts maybe it's 60... can't remember. Anyway, it's louder than anyone should ever need. I would recommend taking your axe to a guitar shop and playing on the different amps to get a feel for what you think sounds best... don't be afraid to crank it up. Always test equipment in the same conditions that you will use it. Good luck!
