Alright, here is the best advice I have. Take a piece of music that you like, preferable cd so you can start the song over, don't get anything to difficult right off the bat. Turn your stereo and your guitar to nearly the same volume, guitar a little bit louder helps but make sure you can hear the song when you make a sound. Now all you have to do is go for it. Seriously take random guesses on how they made the sound. Keep in mind who you live with cause you are probably going to bug someone. Once you figure something out, stop the c.d. and play what you got until you can play it clean and consistent. If you run into a part of the song you cannot figure out, post the name of the song and I am sure someone will know how to help. It will seem impossible at first, but keep trying. I know from experiance, I started with "sweet home alabama" by lynyrd skynyrd, and I thought I was going to die of old age before I could play it. After about a half million times of hitting the repeat button, it just kinda clicked. This method is unconventinal but it teaches multiple lessons at once. You will figure out timing, tonality, and most important you will learn how to feel what you are playing. If you can play with soul, you will be ahead of the game when you start writing your own stuff. If you get to frustrated, try one of the other suggestions. Whatever you decide is the best way for YOU to learn is, keep at it, DO NOT GIVE UP!! Also if you don't have one already, bribe your parents for a digital tuner ASAP. Digitech has a good one, I prefer boss, but it doesn't really matter as long as it works. Best of luck, and feel free to ask for advice!
