Try taking your time, instead of trying to play something up to tempo, forget speed all together for this. Take two chords, calmly put your fingers in position for one then very slowly and calmly move to the chord your trying to place after that. And while you're making the move watch your fingers, keep an eye on what they do in comparison to what you want them to do. This is your opportunity to build finger independance. As they start to veer away and get into a knot, just calmly move them to where you want. As you move one finger pay attention to how the others react and if they get thrown off track when you focus on moving other fingers.
