Gold.

I have Monster 500 XLRs from the KSM44 / AKG C414 to the preamps and the Mogami Golds between the preamps and the MOTU 828s.

I use Monster 500 into either the Bass Pod / preamp or pod pro and good quality 75 ohm cables with gold ends into the S/PDIF ins of both 828s.

Everything else in the critical path is Monster 100 or 500.

For monitoring I use Fender California cables and Hosa insert cables.

Also remember that studio cabling and cabling for gigging is different.

Studio cabling (in my little studio any way) doesn't need to be anything like as bullet proof as the cables you go gigging with every other night !!

There are not singers, bass players and drummers standing on it all the time. It is not setup and ripped down by drunk people after every gig etc etc. and quality doesn't need to be premium.
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.
