The most sincere form of love is putting your own feelings aside and doing what's right for the animal. My cat is almost 18 yo and has had kidney problems in the past. Some meds have got him stable again but if it looks like he is in pain again I will put him down. There is just no way to justify allowing a pet (member of the family) to suffer.
