The step disaster needs to be dealt with,not tolerated.Strong action will put him in his place.He isn't going to hit you and if he does,hit him back and wave bye as he is later hauled of in the police cruiser.
How old are you?If your around 12-17,then moving out may not be an option,but there is no reason you can't have complete freedom from his ideals and standards.Live to your own...if he dosn't like it then he can...well you know.
Never 'put up' with any parent/authority figure(outside the law/justice/government system anyway...).
Speak with conviction and never be intimidated.
