i had a guitar teacher for 2 years and that really helped me with theory and basic techniques and song playing. but i found since i haven't had a teacher for over a yr now, i really progressed on my own. so there are advantages and disadvantages to having a teacher and if u have been playing banjo, and ure impatient then sites like this are a good way to improve as a guitarist
