Hello -
I want to get some new gear. My biggest problem has been getting the 'clear driving' distortion sound like Angus Young. Much of the distortion that I've heard sounds too 'muddy' for my liking. My favorite sound qualities are by Angus Young, Metallica, and Pink Floyd among others (Black Sabbath, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray etc...). But I think if I get the 'Angus' sound, I'll be good and the others will be close.

Every amp and/or guitar, I don't know which, doesn't seem to give the distorted sound and clear tone like Angus gets. I want to get the sound on songs like "You Shook Me All Night Long" where the open chords ring through and you can really hear the clear tones, and also have that driving quality. Plus, I don't like when the low E and sometime A get that "muddy" sound. Most of the effect's pedals I've tried seem to give this "humming" distortion where the tone fluctuates up and down a lot.

Not much on the technical terms, but I think you get an idea of what I'm talking about.

I'm looking at about an $500 to $1,000 dollar budget for guitar and amp for home use. But I will go more to get that sound.

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!
