After working on literally thousands of guitars, I’ve found there are a few fundamental things that impact tone more than others.
Because the major resonance producers of your guitar, the neck and the body, are more or less fixed, there’s not a whole lot you can do to change its natural voice. On the other hand, there are a host of things you can do to help bring out that voice and maximize its potential.

Tube-amp lovers know that low-watt combos are among the hippest tone-boxes in the land, as they can provide the sweet spot between home jamming and studio recording. In fact, rock trivia buffs know that classic guitar tracks like “Layla” and “Stairway To Heaven” were cut using tiny amps that delivered major tone. Blackstar is known for their big, muscular amps, but now has a series of tubular 10-watt charmers, including the Artist 10 AE. Let’s warm up those valves and check it out.

Picking strings for your electric guitar can be really challenging. Do you look for strings with great tone or tone that lasts and lasts? But hey, why compromise when you don't have to?

Reverb pedals are interesting because not only do a lot of amps already have the effect built-in, but reverb itself is ubiquitous among guitar players. Just do a simple Google search for “must-have guitar effects” and reverb is consistently on those lists. Heck, there’s even an entire website named Reverb! With that being said, Walrus Audio had to do something with their brand-new 2018 Fathom Reverb to set it apart from a sea of other stomp boxes.
