The Fret board Logic by Bill Edwards are excellent

You can pick ‘em up on Amazon.com

I just got the boxed set (all 3 books with DVD) and it was about $70 bucks.

If you are relatively new to guitar, Id go with the first book ($16.00) and work through it. Their is a lot of info in their so don’t be daunted, just take it one step at a time !

Another good idea is to get hold of a song book that contains a lot of songs you like and know reasonably well (like you can whistle the melody) and this can be really helpful!

yeah really... I bought a book with a CD that cost me $49 and it didn't teach me half of what I've learned just from searching here for stuff.
