How do I get the surf sound? I have a Fender Standard Strat (HECHO IN MEXICO), and a Fender 65W Princeton chorus amp. I'm using a heavy pick and the regular fender 9's on the strings.

I've tried palm muting fifths and that seems to be the best approach but I have no other idea how to get the surf sound other than "pick really fast"

I use Mediums Fender picks I like having just a little bit of bend for the tremolo picking and I just go as fast I can near the bridge I have found that this greatly increases my speed.

Maybe leave the bass at 4 1/2 mid at
5 and treble at 7 and I agree about excessive
reverb.

dude, i had almost the same rig when i was younger, its great for surf. turn your reverb up, and play only single notes. a scale you can use that sounds great (dick dale used it) is: E, F, G#, A, B, C, Eb, E. try that out.

Use a lot of stacatto jabs, a clean toe, and lots of reverb.
