I dont know if this will help you or not because I've only been playing for about a year. I usually start my practice routine with a few scales, then I move on to some Riffs, Licks, and all the good stuff, hah! Then for about two hours strieght I (Sorry about the spelling) play nothing but songs I like I.E. (my fav band)Rammstein, Papa Roach, P.O.D. and of course, METALLICA!

I don't know if there's much that can motivate someone to learn the guitar if they don't want to. But here are some suggestions: be strict with yourself... become passionate about learning the guitar. Forget the TV and homework, just play play play. Also, if you got a teacher, he might be able to provide the structure you may need in order to concentrate and learn. For me, there's no better motivater then hearing an awesome guitar peice, it gives me a need to learn how to play it.

Hey bofatron, that's a terrific article by Mark Worrell and should be required reading for any guitar player. Thanx for posting the link to it.
