This is going to get as many subjective answers as "Who's the best guitarist?"
I prefer Dean Markley Blue Steel. They give me the *impression* that the strings are very crisp and clean, and I am a freak about changing my strings every day when recording. I've always wanted to do an A/B test, though.
I've heard a lot of good things about Elixer.
You should definitely try out different brands and see if you can sense a difference. It could help develop your ear / sensitivity for tone.

Ya, like Carl said, it's all subjective. Everyone has their preference. I started with Ernie Balls and now I use D'Addario strings.

Hey mike89white,
Maybe you could post what guitars you have, and what style you want to play, and we might be able to make suggestions based on that.

Every guitar likes different strings.
I find D'addarios to work well for me on my electric guitars, but so have Ernie Balls...
It seems to me the type of strings makes more of a difference on acoustic guitars. All Taylor guitars with Elixir strings that I've played sound and feel amazing!
I recently tried a bunch of Cole Clark guitars, some with D'addario strings, some with Martins, some with Elixir. I must say, acoustic guitars with Elixir strings I like! The other strings sound good for one or two days, and then I need to change them...

I use Elixir strings (for electric and accoustic) because I hate to change strings all the time :P
To my ear, they are the one that last the longest and keeps there "original" sound the longest. They also sound pretty good. On a 0 to 10 scale 10 being string heaven and 0 being....hell heaven (so unoriginal ) I would give them a solid 9. I'm not giving 10 because I just know that somewhere theres something better....there's always something better.
And the search goes on !
