Compression pedals?
Wanted to know if any of you use them. if so, how would you describe how they have benefited your tone? I know in general what they do and was talking to someone about them. I had asked what kind of an affect they had on pinch harmonics thinking that I would be told that they have a negative affect on them, rather, i was told that a compression pedal will make them louder. I found that to be interesting considering how a compression pedal is supposed to work.

A compression pedal makes the quiet stuff louder and the loud stuff quiet. So it definitely would enhance pinch harmonics.
When you set the controls on a compressor, you are setting a baseline. The unit will try to bring all sounds into that baseline by boosting the weak signals (like a harmonic) and dropping the loud ones so the volume level is more consistent.
The term `compressor`is slightly misleading, since it`s also a booster of sorts.
You lose a lot of dynamics. Depending on what you play, the ability to create drama and tension by making the music softer and louder is a big part of the delivery.
That`s my take on it.

I may invest in one. Not in a big hurry but I'd like to check one out.

You'll probably like it. I think it's a staple effect for that 80's Hair stuff

Wait a minute. Doesn't your BOSS mfx unit have a compressor?

Yes, my Boss GT10 has one built into it. Never used it. I just got my new tube amp about a month ago. I've been modding it and have not had a lot of chances to play through it just yet.
Having said that, I got the GT10 mostly because I didn't care a whole lot for the tone of my SS amp with my pedals. Just didn't mix well. However, I can get some great tones from my SS amp and my GT10 together. I was planning on not using the GT10 with the tube amp, rather just pedals. But that more than likely will change.
