Any fans of the Allman Brothers Band around here? I just got into them recently, having purchased the Live At The Fillmore East album. The dueling guitar work of (the late) Duane Allman and Dicky Betts is truly mesmerizing. These guys are true masters of improvisational rock. And I'm not just saying that because they're from my home state, they are amazing. I wish that you metalheads would check out this great group and see what a bunch of truly talented musicians can do.

Any thoughts, comments or opinions are welcome.

My pappy introduced that album to me. It's fantastic. That guy could sling a slide and belt out those harmonies with Dicky.

Dickey Betts and Warren Haynes are awesome man. And of course the late great Duane Allman was awesome as well

Also listen to "Eat A Peach"; some of the Fillmore shows' material is captured there as well -- particularly "Mountain Jam" which takes up 2 full sides of the 2 LP set (OK there is a long drum solo but tons of guitar work). If you dig Duane Allman, check out his two "Anthology" albums; Duane was THE session guitarist at Muscle Shoals recording studios and can be heard on many famous artists' recordings. Last but not least, listen to Clapton's (sorry, Derek and the Dominoes) "Layla and Other Love Songs" double LP set and marvel at these two guitar gods absolutely kicking ***.

Yeah, I just picked up Beginnings and Eat A Peach the other day. Beginnings as I'm sure you know, compiles the ABB's first two albums on one disc. I've only listened to this one so far. Very, very good stuff. I've owned Derek and the Dominos' Layla album for a while now and it's become one of my favorite rock albums. That's how I first heard of Duane Allman. I'm really glad I discovered the Allman Brothers Band. I had previously brushed them off as 'redneck rock' like Lynyrd Skynyrd or something, but I was very wrong. Up until the death of Duane Allman, they were a wonderful blues-rock band, heavy on the blues guitar. A friend of mine introduced me to them, and I am very grateful.

You've got to listen to "Eat a Peach". It was the last ABB release with Duane. I wore out both "... Fillmore" and " ... Peach" from continuous listening (this was in the 70's when vinyl ruled). I've borrowed many licks from Duane and Dicky over the years and still use them today. Enjoy !!!
