PAIN Meds

Any of you had to see a Dr about getting on pain meds from your hands hurting from playing/praticing so much? Arthritis perhaps?

I wake up in the morning and my fingers feel like they are stuffed with cotton.

Anyone had to see a Dr about anything like this?

When you practice, do you do warm ups before you practice or just start right in? Also, what about the ergonomics of how you hold the guitar?

What I'm aiming is that, barring a medical condition that pertains to you that otherwise isn't common to most guitarists, is ther something that you're doing that might be creating the issue.

When practicing, I make sure that I feel like the guitar hangs itself from me with a strap and I'm just touching it to make notes. I don't want to be holding up the neck or pressing the body of the guitar against me too hard to hold it in place.

How long do you play or practice each day? Too much practice could be a possibility.

As a reference, I play with .14-.60 strings on my acoustic for at most 2 hours a day at this point (a novice player who is just two months back into returning to playing after several years). My fingers are sore on occasion, but nothing like you are experiencing.

Best,

Corey

You might have pulled a muscle and didn't realize and kept playing on it so it never healed. Try taking a few days off from playing. It will actually help th material you've learned sink in, then when you jump back on after the few days, you'll play a lot better and be a lot more motivated.
