Cause We've ended as Lovers- ala Jeff Beck

I have been messing around with the Stevie Wonder tune, Cause we've ended as lovers, but done as Beck did it on the Blow by Blow album.

I don't even deserve to clean Beck's boots with my tongue let alone do this tune, but it's a great learning experience.
I didn't really try and copy any of beck's licks, I just let er rip, but I have been listening to this tune for 30 years so there's bound to be some stolen ideas.

Hope someone digs this style of guitar instrumental.
It's just a learning experience, but let me know if something sucks reall bad and I'll fix it.

I didn't really listen to the whole track as I was on the way out the door after it downloaded, and also I haven't heard the original song so I don't know what to compare it with.. but I did feel that there was a distinct lack of reverb for my liking.. may be that is how it is meant to be.. I dunno. I've never really wanted to play "like" someone else as such.. never really wanted to learn other people's songs as such.. so I would have definitely played that with more reverb, even if the original song didn't have any reverb.

Hopefully someone who knows what the original sounds like will give you some feedback from that angle.

Reverb would be a personal choice of the player.

I don't really use reverb, mostly just delays.
There's lots of delay on the guitar for a slow tune like this.

You can really hear the delay on a note that stops. You hear a bunch of trails after the note.

I fixed the intro and uploaded a new version

when I saw you are covering this song, I HAD to stop everything and click on your link!

WoW! You've really put your stamp on this 'standard' . Some of the phrasing are really interesting. I really appreciate that you didn't play it note for note.

The first few lines I thought came on a little too harsh, guess 20 years of listening to Mr. Beck's volume swell on that part had brain-washed me hahah

Great piece of playing!

yeah, you are right.
I should have eased into it a little more dynamically.

It was raining all day a couple days ago when I did this, so I sat inside and goofed around with this tune.

It's nice out now and I'm outside doing crap.
I'll mess with it some more and see if I can come up with some better stuff.
