At my school there is going to be a talent show! I'm considering playing sweet child o' mine (GN'R) should I? It's the 28th and I am almost finished learning it.

As long as you have a band accompanying you. If not, do something solo like Eruption or B.R.O. Eruption is cliche to do, but it always wind the crowd over.
What would really be good though, is after you get done playing whatever song you choose, you carry it into the Star Spangled Banner. That is if your american.

Yeah, it all depends if you are accompanied or not. Playing a song people know will help. Eruption might be a bit too much for a non-guitar audience but hey, I've never done a talent show, so no idea on tactics. If you can play sweet child well, then go for it. If not, simplify it a little so you can play it with your eyes closed...
I'm not american, but I quite often throw the first six notes of the star spangled banner into the start of the big old 'live ending':
waaaw waaw waaaaaw waaw waaaw waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw (crash of drums and big chord to finish)...

i definitely wouldnt play somthing unless its fast or people wont appreciate it (in my opinion) because so many people play guitars! and make sure you have it PERFECT, be able to play it 10 times in a row with no mistakes when you first wake up in the morning, and youll be ready to play it.(thats when i know ive learned a song)

I disagree with the fast thing...play something good.
Maybe a finger-picked piece that is really beautiful? could work well, If it were me, I'd play Mood For A day by Yes, but only because I can play it and it's very impressive...probably the most impressive piece I can play
