my first song

Hello everyone,

I'm new here as I'm also a total beginner in learning guitare (1 week!).

I wrote a song though with the chords I know, well actually the beginning of the song, what you would call "verse?" but when it comes to the main melody (sorry I'm french speaking!) I have the singing melody but just can't find the right chords as there are still so many for me to learn!
Was wondering if there would be a "freeware program" of some kind that could tell me what note I'm singing so I can find the appropriate chord on my guitar...
And aside from that, so far I'm learning on a old classic guitar that has been unused for over a decade. I'm saving some money to buy one, thinking about 250euros (kind of the same in dollars). Could someone recommend me a good guitar. I'm much into blues, soul, rock and folk. So my guess would be to buy a folk guitar instead of a classical one!?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thalie

I would recomend you learn the chords and focus on how they sound. Once you learn the chords tonalities, it will be easier to match them to your voice. cheers

Yeah, my french is pretty bad, too.

Merci pour les conseils. My sister has an old synthetisor, can borrow it. I just didn't though of using another instrument as I'm learning the guitar... the one and only instrument I'm planning to play but pushing a botton and comparing a note... should work.
PS: Not french, but Belgian and I only drink red bull when it comes along with vodka ;o)
