problems recording the GA-5

I finally got the GA-5 fixed and just put some new JJ tubes in from eurotubes and it sounds great! Only problem is, that when I record it, the recording sounds real bad. It's not my pc or anything like that, because my classic 50 records flawlessly with the same exact set-up. When the amp is somewhat clean, it records ok, but when the volume is up getting good smooth tube saturation, it sounds like crap on the recording. all recording levels are low enough so no clipping is going on. I guess I need to try placing the mic in different places. because the 2 placements I've tried don't sound right. I know it's not just that great of an amp, but in person, to me, it sounds very sweet, and the recordings just arent giving it the justice it deserves!
