I would recommend you go through our beginner guide first.

The things you will learn will definitely apply to metal. They are presented in a generic style-agnostic way, but they are the same skills you will need to play harder music.

From what you say about your experience, you might be able to skip the first part of Beginner Level 1, or possibly all of beginner level 1, and focus on beginner level 2, particularly barre chords, picking speed, and chord changing speed.
