Do any of you know how to spin a guitar around your body?
Do you need a special strap?

Yeah, get yourself a set of strap locks, if you don't you'll probably send your guitar flying off stage!
Just try not to do what I did and get gold strap locks with a black and green guitar, looks like crap. Anyways, like moodie said, give it a good swing and just try not to over do it like Yngwie. I have one of his live DVD's and he kicks his leg and swings his guitar so many times it makes me wanna cry. Either cry or kick him in the balls/head......

I'll repeat that for emphasis- you need strap locks. If you attempt something like swinging your guitar around without them I can guarantee it'll be bouncing off the nearest wall.

Thats not a problem. Ive got Dunlop strap loks. I like them better than the Schallers

1. Use a cheap and/or a broken guitar when you practice,
you dont want to accidentally throw your precious 3000$
axe out the window.
2. Use straplocks.
3. Swing it like a man! Dont hesitate. If you do, you will fail.
You can figure out the physics on your own, it's not that hard.
Good luck!

The person who does this stunt most smoothly imo is Tripp from Static-X.

first time i tried that, i hit my poor innocent vocalist, with my headstock. I've gotten better since then. But im always so afraid that i'm going to drop it...and that would be terribly unfair, and i would cry...

That could seriously hurt. Hopefully that didn't happen during a gig, that would be very embarasing. Or if you hit like the side of your own knee on the downswing, that would also be bad.
Maybe that's why so many more guys play guitar than girls, we're the only ones nuts enough to try stuff like this.

Haha. That would be so funny to watch if that happend at a gig. I can imagine some guitarist in a crappy punk band :p

It's called a "Windmill" or a Whirligig I believe. Aparently Pete Townsend used to do it.. he didn't give a **** about smashing his guitars!

Yeah, but he had a bit more money than most of us here.

The windmill is when you spin your picking arm.
Edit: I just remembered that some years ago I read that Pete Townshend
once had to cancel in the middle of a concert because he did the windmill
and accidentally slammed his fingers on the bridge.

lol, no wasn't at a gig, just practice. I think i did see sum41's guitarist guy drop his guitar on mtv once, but they also slam their gear all the time from what i've seen.
crappy punk band? heheehe, got metal in my blood!
my old bass player tried his hand at it, he almost broke his neck. The bass went up and around his neck, choking him. Good stuff.

well u dont really need a special strp just as long as it can slide on ur shirt.......get the strap locks that slide on they're better for the throw....some guitars arent the best for throwing......like my 2 gibson sg's are not easily capable of throwing b/c of the placement of the bolts.......if it attaches to the arm of the guitar that is best.......oh and when you're starting to do it make sure i wear a collar or you're going to get a big burn on your neck......throwing ur guitar is soemthing you cant really practice.....its better if u do it a couple times before performing but its oen of those things you just have to do w/o thinking
