Yeah, I just tried adding a reply to the wallet thread and instead a window popped up from my anti-virus software informing me that a trojan was being downloaded.

Now, I'm pretty sure there isn't anything on this site that downloads a virus, but what the heck? Where did that come from? I don't have any other internet browsers up.

Its a type of social engineering. I'm sure you don't really have a trojan (unless it was your antivirus software telling you that), its probably just an advertisement, trying to trick you into buying more software that you don't need.

My solution:

Stop using crappy software.

I got that too, but I think it actually ddid get on my computer

there was this weird looking pop up and i closed it right away, but all of these non sense icons showed up on my desktop I deleted them, but then my computer started ****ing up right and left

it really pissed me off, but I did the gateway go back thing and it seems fine now

It was my McAfee Virus Scan v.4.5.1 that popped up from my taskbar about it, not something with the browser. I didn't actually get a popup add, just the incoming virus warning that stopped the download.

Hmmmm, maybe someone tried to hack you then. It's not too hard without good antivirus software and firewall protection.

It just happened again. I got a screenshot of it. This time it just happened when I entered the 'open discussion' section.

Everytime I go to view a page on here, it keeps popping up that "You are about to view pages over a secure connection."

I dunno what's going on, but it comes up on every page. :confused:

sounds like spyware to me...

2 things...
1st - go to google and download the google toolbar.... great software and it's free..... stops popups better than software I've (the company I work for) paid for!

2nd - go to download.com and get spybot search and destroy. Install it, update it and then run it... let it clean everything it finds.. great stuff

as for the IE "viewing pages over a secure connection problem" do this...

in IE (internet explorer) go to tools -> options and click on the advanced tab at the far right... 2nd from the bottom of that page is "warn when changing from secure to not secure mode" Uncheck that bad boy and that notification will go away...

On top of Spybot Search and Destroy, I would also recommend Bazooka Adware and Spyware Destroyer, can be picked up off of download.com too.

If you are a little more advanced with computers, and can follow simple instructions, it tells you how to clean up most adware.

After running Spybot Search and Destroy, I ran Bazooka and it found problems still.

So it's better to have a couple.

Another good one is Adaware. www.lavasoft.com

yep - you can/should always use more than one piece of spyware removal.. I was just thinking in the "free" realm...

another one I have that is awesome is webroot spysweeper. it found another 140 traces of software that spybot missed... they're both good software but they don't all get the same updates...

another way to get rid of popups and spyware - use google... search for the specific one that is giving you a hard time and there is usually info out there on how to remove it.

for the pc savvy try this site..

Yeah, Bazooka and Adaware are both "free."

Bazooka concentrates more on the registry corrupting malware, not just the tracking cookies and such.

Adaware is good for the cookies too.
