what IS a "great sound"???????? a sound that sounds great to me might sound crap to you.
actually.. i´m quite satisfied with the presets.. all the newer acoustic recordings in my hostsection have been performed over that thing - i guess it was bank one preset three for example ... i´m not much into that sound-experimenting thing.

btw - the ME50 is a realy easy to use thingy - so all you need is there - there is no guideline - just your ear

I got the ME-50 Tuesday and shipped it back Thursday. I couldn't get anything to sound the way I wanted, and I didn't like how how it was set up. Besides haveing it sound better, seems to me it would have been more practical to have 10 or so chanells/banks, and in each channel you have the option of turning the induvidual effects on or off. Say for example, I'm playing this big solo with delay, and when I go into the rythme, I want to keep the sound I have, and turn the delay off instead of setting up 2 channels exactly the same only one with delay and the other without. Another built in footswitch to change the channels/banks would have been nice to instead of bending down to punch a little button or buy an external switch. And, the wah had to be one of the worst sounding wah's I've ever heard. Ok, I'm through complaining, it's gone, and I'm getting the real stuff Saturday.

Isn't there a manual mode where you can do just that? That is, turn individual effects on and off?
I'm thinking real hard about getting one of these puppies (as soon as a large debt gets paid off) and want to do my research first. If I end up getting it, I'll probably get the stereo cable and two footswitches and it'll still be cheaper and easier to use than a GT-6.
I had a GT-6 for a little while, and the learnign curve was waaay too steep. I didn't have the 2 hours a day to poke around and learn how to use all the features, when all I really wanted was your standard effects (e.g. delay, compression, EQ, volume pedal, flanger, phaser, tremolo).

What does that involve?

true enough there is a manual mode, but, it's basically like what you see is what you get. So, if say for instance instead of using chorus, you wanted to go to flange or something you woul dhave to reach down and reset everything. I'm sure if I had spent more time with the ME-50, I might have grown to like it, but I'm done the whole modeling/multi-effects thing for too long. It also seemed to take all the sweet tone out of my amp and produce a steril/digital/very thin sound. As for the "real stuff" I'm planning on getting a Boss CE-5 chorus ensamble, TU-2 tuner, original cry baby, and DD-3 delay. Right now that's all I need. I might invest in a few more gadgets later, but for now, that's all I need. I'm really growing fond of the overdrive on the classic 50, so I don't really see a need for a distortion/overdrive pedal. Besides, I've still got my triple XXX if I want to get down right brutal and loud.

I think the Me50 rocks...It is really simple to use.Like many stomp boxes in one.
The only things I dont really like are the Phaser and flanger.Dunno why, but the distortions all sound killer, especially through my Laney vc50.
Just mess about with different settings and youll find summin you love
