feedback with a vengeance!

i recently bought an excellent ibanex sz550qm,(i think thats right) and upon plugging it into my amp,at a respectable band practice level, it fed back with a vengeance. i am a competent player and have never had such a problem.i already own an old s series, and have had no problem, only tasteful, controlable feedback, and with exactly the same amp settings etc, this new guitar feedsback between every note. is this liable to be because of poor pick ups? they are the standard ibanez humbuckers, and as the rest of the guitar seems of such a high standard, i am surprised at the problem. any advice would be greately appreciated.

I dont think it would be the pick ups. Check the lead and also the problem might be just where you put the lead into the guitar. Does it feedback when you move the lead around ?

i dont think it is the lead, as i didnt have any problem when i plugged in my trusty old s series.it fed back constantly, i tried moving around the room and generally playing with the guitar, and unless i turned the tone and volume right down, it just squealed annoyingly.i cant turn it up loud enough at home to test out whether moving the lead makes a difference.

Change the pickups... They are probably cheap and not properly potted to keep them from doing exactly what you are describing....

can you recommend any good flexible humbuckers then? i try to play as wide a spectrum of styles as possible, ranging from jazz and funk to metal, punk and shred. Could it have anything to do with the earth wire at all? because i dont think it is properly grounded, but the wire disappears inside the body so it is hard to be sure.

DiMarzio. Many people like Seymour Duncans more so they're worth checking out as well, but my money goes to DiMarzio.

hey letdown, i think i had the same problem with my old guitar. I wouldnt think its the pickups. My guitar was fine and then suddenly started squeeking lots and thats when i got a new guitar and everything was fine.
If you take it to a shop and let someone test it they might be able to tell you whats wrong.
Maybe it is the pickups though... you cant go wrong getting better pickups anyway :D

For a wide variety of sounds check out the BREED and Evolution pickups from Dimarzio, and the wire that disappears into the body is going to your bridge and grounding it there also.

i recently bought an excellent ibanex sz550qm.... If there's a warranty on it, take it back for repair (new pickups, that is) otherwise you're looking at replacing them out of your own pocket. The coils are usually soaked in some kind of potting material to keep the windings from moving. This prevents them from being microphonic, which is the condition you're experiencing.
