Does someone know what is the normal voltage of capacitors used in guitar effects? what are the common ones that are used?

Regardless of what kind of equipment they're used in, capacitors are selected to handle whatever voltage they are likely to be exposed to. A good practice is to use caps rated for nearly twice as much voltage as they will normally see. For example, caps used in a 15 Volt circuit should be rated for at least 25 Volts.

In a distortion circuit, the capacitors are not directly responsible for making the distortion. The IC or op-amp and diodes are responsible for that. The cap is basically more of a filter than anything...
